LED
Lamp is a new lighting technology introduced in domestic and industrial zones.
LED lights consist of a light emitting diode which is assembled into a fixture.
It is a highly efficient lighting technology with a performance many times
better than traditional lighting. The secret lies in the LED chip technology,
which emits more that 100 Lumens per watt, also there are high performance LED
chips which emit 160 Lumens per watt. Most of the LED chips have a lifespan of
50,000 hours. Recently LED market has a large number of shares in the market. One of the
benefits of LED lighting is that it comes to full brightness instantaneously
after it is turned on and unlike traditional lighting its lifespan is not
affected by the times it is turned on. Moreover the Lumens depreciation is very
slow in case of LED’s e.g CREE is offering the chips of which Lumens does not
depreciate more than 5% after a lifespan of 10,000 hours.
. Upon all the advantages of LED lighting there is one very significant advantage that LED does not emit light
in all directions , this improves the lighting because now the light will be minded
into a beam angle which is required to illuminate the room or the specific area
. Phase LED Lighting technology not only improves efficiency at work station,
but also saves wattage which saves electricity bill in countries with high
electricity unit cost.
LED chips are available in various types which
vary in wattages, lumen output and efficiency. There are small, low wattage LED’s
which are a combined in such a way that give lumen output according to wattage
they are assembled into .
Then there are high wattage LEDs which are
normally called C.O.B “Chip on Board” they are pre-assembled into large wattage
LEDs and are easy to use because they
already combined internally in a specific combination and one can
simply use them by turning them on. LED’s are powered up by giving them D.C
voltage and controlled DC current by means of low voltage A.c to D.c converter
, also called LED driver.
